Fox Sports will soon be bringing its live football coverage to its smartphones, starting with the Houston Texans-Dallas Cowboys game this Sunday.
The Fox Sports app for iOS and Android will stream the game on the iPhone and Android at 1:30 a.m.
ET on Sunday, March 4, along with the NFL Network’s Thursday Night Football coverage, according to a new Fox Sports release.
This will be the first time a live NFL game will be streamed on mobile platforms.
The NFL has long used its apps for live game streams on smartphones, but the NFL Mobile app, which has been available on Apple devices for years, was removed from the iPhone app store in the fall.
Fox Sports said the move was due to a lack of interest in watching games on mobile devices, which have been a primary focus of the NFL’s streaming strategy.
Fox Sports’ football coverage will be available to NFL fans for the first 10 minutes of the game, Fox Sports CEO Brian Roberts said in a statement.
“With the release of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6, we can now provide NFL fans with live and exclusive coverage of the games that matter most,” Roberts said.
“We are confident that we can bring a more compelling experience to the fans.”NFL Mobile also allows fans to watch games live and via the company’s apps for Samsung and Motorola devices, and for some other companies.
Fox’s game stream will also be available on Roku devices.
